preening black duck decoy Elmer Crowell

The Sporting Sale 2015

Copley’s Sporting Sale 2015 realized over $1.6 million in sales with a sell-through rate of 89%. Quality works with reasonable estimates proved to be a powerful combination. Bidding was strong across all categories as shown by the numerous world records set. The sale indicated continued strength in the antique decoy, folk art, decorative, and sporting art markets.

The top lot of the sale was a preening black duck by A. Elmer Crowell (see image to right) which sold for $210,000.
