Consignment Process

Consignment Agreement

After discussing your artwork with a specialist, Copley will send you a consignment agreement outlining the consignment terms, including our consignor commission rate and terms of sale. Our competitive commission rates are scaled based on the value of your items.

Shipping

After you have spoken to a specialist, items should be shipped to our office at 65 Sharp Street in Hingham, Massachusetts. If you are unable to ship your items, we invite you to drop them off at our gallery or contact a specialist to find out when we will next be in your area. We also have several fine art shippers and art handlers that we frequently work with who you can contact for assistance.

Marketing

Copley will catalog, photograph, and market your artwork. Copley produces industry-leading and award-winning auction catalogs and all consignors receive a copy. Copley sends numerous marketing emails to a client list built over thirty years in the industry. Clients are invited to privately preview lots at our gallery as well as at scheduled public previews. Copley also frequently hosts private previews in client homes.

Post Sale

Copley will email the prices realized within a week of the auction. Prices realized include a 20% buyer’s premium, which is a fee charged to our buyers on top of the hammer price. Net proceeds to a consignor are calculated based on the hammer price less consignor commission. Consignor payments are sent out between 30-45 days after a sale.
