The Sporting Sale 2008

Copley’s Sporting Sale 2008 achieved $3.2 million in sales. Copley set a new record for a standing Crowell decorative duck with a Life-Size Reaching Black Duck that sold for $209,000. Notable painting sales included a watercolor by Frank Benson, Wigeon, that sold for $132,250, and Pointer With Quail, an oil painting by Edmund Osthaus, that nearly quadrupled the high estimate, and established a new world record for the artist at $225,500 (see image at right).
