Principal

Stephen O'Brien, Jr. is a long standing advisor to leading collectors and museums of American antiques and fine art. In helping to form distinguished collections, he has claimed a number of world record auction prices. Most recently, O'Brien secured a scrimshaw whale's tooth by the "Pagoda/Albatross Artist" for $303,000 in 2005. O'Brien's leadership in decoy collecting circles is well known. He has set the last two world records for antique decoys, purchasing an A. Elmer Crowell preening Canada Goose at auction for $684,500 in 2000, and a preening Pintail Drake at auction for $801,500 in 2003.

O'Brien teamed up on his first successful auction with Rafael Osona on Nantucket in 1993. Three years later, he opened his upscale gallery in Boston's Back Bay, and he continues to run it with his wife, Cinnie.

With their gallery, Stephen and Cinnie exhibit at premier fine art, antiques, and decoy shows throughout the year including The American Antiques Show in New York, Philadelphia Antiques Show, The Nantucket Historical Association Show, The Easton Waterfowl Festival, and the upcoming Ellis Memorial Show in Boston.

As a noted decoy expert, sporting art dealer, and author, O'Brien has been featured in articles by Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Four Seasons Magazine, Robb Report, and Worth Magazine. In 2005, he co-authored the definitive volume Masterworks of the Illinois River: Decoys from the Collection of Thomas K. Figge with art historian Julie Carlson.

Steve is a member of the Antiques Council, Appraisers' Registry and serves on the National Advisory Council for the Atlantic Salmon Federation. A diehard outdoorsman, he lives and breathes for fly-fishing. He also braves New England's harshest weather to play outdoor platform tennis in the winter months.
